Magnet Basics & Ratings Gauss
You ask "What is Gauss?" Or "What is bipolar?" If it the case, I'll try to answer a few of your questions.
Firstly, what is a magnet anyway? A magnet is primarily material that has a magnetic field. There are two basic types: permanent magnets and electromagnets. The electro-magnetic fields are generated magnetic using electric currents. permanent magnets, on the other hand, are materials that generate magnetic fields themselves and lose their strength. Most magnetic therapy products permanent magnets.
magnetic flux density is a measure of the strength of the magnetic field produced by a magnet. Gauss (symbol: G) is a unit easy to use when talking about the kind of magnets that the average person is used to. To give you an idea of what a Gauss is your typical refrigerator magnet has a magnetic field of about 10 gauss. Magnetic therapy products tend to use magnets that range from a few hundred gauss to over ten thousand gauss. The magnetic flux density (strength) of a magnet is great partly based on what the magnet is made.
Many materials can be transformed into magnets. Typical permanent magnets embedded magnets ceramic, plastic magnets, magnets hematite, and neodymium magnets. The last of these Neodymium magnets (also known as magnets rare earth), exert extremely powerful magnetic fields - so strong, in fact, a neodymium magnet the size of a penny can sometimes lift hundreds of pounds with the strength of its magnetic field!
The size of a magnet also plays an important role in determining the strength magnet therapy. The same neodymium magnet that can lift hundreds of pounds with its magnetic field may not even be able to penetrate more than a few centimeters into the human body because of its small size. It is the combination of force (magnetic flux density) and the size of the magnet determines the strength of a particular therapeutic magnet.
Finally, what polarity? Perhaps one of the least understood aspects of magnetic therapy is the role played by the polarity to generate therapeutic effects. All magnets have north and south poles, with the magnet north pole pointing Land to the North Pole and South Pole of the magnet pointing toward the Earth's South Pole. Polarity is the term used to describe the alignment of particles inside the magnet. There are two types of magnets, magnets bipolar and unipolar magnets. Bipolar magnets are those who have both north and south polarity on the same side of the magnet, while the unipolar magnets have the north pole of one side and the south pole of another. A difference between bipolar and unipolar magnets, the magnets pole tend to have greater penetration than bipolar because the polarity is uniform on each side. Other differences between the two types of magnets are still under investigation.
